Why does a need for paid forum software comes up? Few good free forum softwares are available, but many go with Xenforo and IPB to get started. Any reason?
I feel because of the completeness they get out of paid software.
Jason I feel because of the completeness they get out of paid software.
They are new, comes with many requested features out of the box, official support and associated with some kind of pride that it is a premium piece because it is costly.
PS : Nice to see you 🙂
Not interested in Discourse ? Beats paid software by a mile in features and it is free.
Paid software has decidated staff hence more time invested in development.
Abhi I haven't checked it out. I like Flarum more and i am a traditional forum layout guy so Discourse and Flarum might not work for me
And thank you for the input friends.
If the management is efficient, free software could beat paid ones with ease. But financial appreciation is greater for paid software owners. They are also capable of brand building, which is in actual hiding their faults and buying praises. 🤕
Paid software is often better maintained and more frequent updates are available. It is also more modern than smf, mybb, phpbb et al.
Sometimes the paid software can offer you better security because outdated software might have openings where hackers can infiltrate if updates haven't been maintained. I don't really like it that XenForo has so many paid add ons and miss the vBulletin freebies. When developers found they could get paid for the same type of stuff, they chose to stop producing for vBulletin and go to Xenforo. Some of my favorite developers jumped ship like that.
I can agree with that @Lammchen Security updates, patches are faster in Paid software. Sad to hear about what happened to vBulletin.
