Do you know that time spent on website has a huge impact on SEO ? What are your tricks to improve it ?

It is of great importance, yes. Try to engage visitors as much as you can. Try not to trick them, keep interesting content ready for visitors in landing page. That is where sidebar plays a big role. Decently spread Menus can work well too.

No one talked about Menu in this context before. Now that we have it at hand, it does seem an important method to keep people engaging. ie, Menu with entries like News, Resources etc can make uses spend more time as they are global.

According to some resources I referred, keeping visitors for at least 2 to 3 minutes on your website is very productive with organic SEO.

Probably right ? I normally aim that visitors doesn't have to leave abruptly. Rest I leave to the content and layout.

Some webmasters think that long posts are helpful. But like in case of videos, people will move on it is more than 4-5 minutes read.

Hmm in my forum few stay for more than 3 minutes that is good then. Need to be more creative to make my users stay little longer.

That is good news. Normally webmasters use " Related Topics " plugin to make sure that people won't wander off after reading one topic.

We have 4 options here, which comes in a drop down menu. Now that you mentioned, let me see whether it can be put in a horizontal manner. Less hidden that way.
