Did you know, as of Gutenberg 7.3 you can set text and background colours ? ie, you can set colours for blocks

I saw some examples is a blog. It is mostly

background-color: #colourName;

and

color: #colourName;

but through a GUI mode. There were nav bars where we can choose the background colours. Looks like every block is associated with a text and bg colour in their framework.

Interestingly, the general consensus from the WordPress community is that users loathe Gutenberg. So much so, that the Classic Editor plugin which removes Gutenberg and restores the classic editor has been installed 5+ million times !

I would stick with the classic editor. I like the old way of doing it.

But who knows, WordPress might kill it one day.

I was a page builder guy. I started using those building blocks since the time of SiteOrigin. Since then, a lot of page builders came into the scene. It could be because of their popularity that WordPress thought about making it default.

This one is for clients. For my own text blogs, I still prefer the classic editor.

v 5.4 beta 1 is now availabe. WordPress wants to do full site editing with block as a primary goal for 2020. 2 new blocks are added. Buttons and social links. Column block, button, Group and Cover now has more colour options. Latest posts block now supports adding featured images. Toolbar stays on top while using the mobile version.

There is a calender widget that developers are dealing with now. Favicon handling has improved in this version

Jetpack will call-off the mobile theme in March 2020

In March 2020, we’ll retire the Jetpack mobile theme. Originally we created the mobile theme feature as a fall-back when the regular theme did not include a mobile view. Most themes include a mobile view by default now, so the feature is no longer necessary.

I dont think this is a bad thing to be honest. Virtually all WordPress themes these days are mobile first. The jetpack mobile theme sought to fill a void that was eventually occupied by proper themes.

v 5.4 beta 2 is now available.

Some highlights

Since beta 1, 27 bugs have been fixed. Here is a summary of a few changes included in beta 2:
Block editor: Columns in the Block Library that have unassigned-width will now grow equally.
Block editor: The custom gradient picker now works in languages other than English.
Block editor: When choosing colors is not possible, the color formatter no longer shows.
Privacy: The privacy request form fields have been adjusted to be more consistent on mobile.
Privacy: The notice offering help when editing the privacy policy page will no longer show at the top of All Pages in the admin area.
Site Health: The error codes for failed REST API tests now display correctly.
