How many of you have used Flarum ? What do you think about it ?
It is a free and open-source software and has a lot of bells and whistles.
Flarum features are great. Once it goes stable, there will be no stopping it.
It reminds me a lot of Discourse. Which is a good thing actually.
Flarum is way ahead of many other free software in terms of features. That is why a large no. of people are participating even when they are on beta. I hope these people will be so happy when they see it go stable.
Abhi large no. of people are participating even when they are on beta.
This the most positive thing about Flarum. I admit they have their drawbacks, but that is not technical at all.
Beta 12 is expected to arrive next week. They have already udate their official support forum to Beta 12. I think this will be the last beta.
Abhi it won't. They are already discussing beta 13.
phenomlab already discussing beta 13.
How many betas before stable ? Any official roadmap on the same ?
Abhi not as far as I can see. The flarum team do not release a roadmap, which I understand because it would make them accountable and an expectation is then set in terms of deliverables. Flarum on the whole is solid with a few minor bugs here and there which get fixed extremely quickly.
I like software that can be installed through Softaculous. That is my standard for an easy to use forum.
I hope that day will come soon.
Abhi As it stands now, the requirement for composer will prevent this. But I know a simplified installer is on their roadmap (somewhere).
phenomlab a simplified installer is on their roadmap (somewhere).
Once they do that, everyone will be able to use it on any normal web host.
There is some experimental project which will allow you to install Flarum on shared host
https://github.com/askvortsov1/flarum-ez-install
I hope it will hit stable soon.
Also, Flarum beta 12 might be released this week
Beta 12 is now available. Beta 13 might come by May 2020.
Beta 14 is also confirmed before a stable release. What is our guess ? Release date round October ?
admin judging by the previous timelines, I'd say this is right
Not happy with the current layout ( discussion based ) ? Flarum has got categories layout for you. The traditional look never grows old
It is done through Flarum Categories extension. It is responsive as well
I use this on phenomlab
It simply fills the void for some users. Category type layout still has much demand.
I would use the tags layout with images in it or some icon instead of plan tiles. Reminds me of another software with almost the same tile layout.
I would have used Vanilla forums if they had such an addon. The conventional layout is very much appreciated in some niche. You simply cannot live without it.
Even a support forum at some point do not want to show previous issues to the new visitors.
Me too. I skipped Vanilla many times due to their thread layout. I like them, only that the projects I had in mind needs a layout that will talk about categories first, not topics. Different scenarios, different choices.
