I have seen a steep rise in people choosing Ubuntu as their server OS. While cPanel is not available on Ubuntu, that doesn't stop people from putting it on their VPS or dedicated.
What do you think the reason behind it ? Is Ubuntu safer ? Or is it easy to use ?
I think the answer is very simple. A lot of people use Ubuntu on their laptop. So they simply chose it on a server as well.
Ubuntu has a very helpful community support, that might have worked as well. Mouth publicity is a killer deal.
The commands are simple. That we have to give it.
If there is some good control panel as well. It would be great to work with. I heard ISP Config is available for use with Ubuntu.
I heard this theme for Webmin. It is called Authentic Theme. Makes Webmin looks like cPanel, more or less
That is good find. But is it safe to use ? I would wait for some security audit before putting it on Webmin.
admin I would wait for some security audit before putting it on Webmin.
Not sure that's necessary. A theme is essentially CSS and bootstrap etc. It's rare for it to impact the core security in any way.
Now that 20.04 is available, I think a few people will switch to it.
Canonical is very serious about Ubuntu on server. They are pushing it for IoT and Robotics as well.
There is constant feature addition and development happening in this area of Ubuntu.
I see. Nice to have a backup suggestion 🙂
I will look up if there are more such themes available. Which are safe and reliable.
Interestingly, the entire point of a Linux server is not to have any DE running on it 😁
Yes, that is what a Linux server is famous for
phenomlab Linux server is not to have any DE running on it
Or, it never had an UI built for it 😉
admin not the case. Any desktop edition will work on Linux server.
Admins don't like DE, do they ?
Abhi Admins don't like DE, do they ?
I suspect that depends on how lazy / competent they are !
You got a lazy one here 😉
