Rely on backup by the host

I have had my share of friends who thinks that a web host is responsible for backup. If something goes wrong, you simply start a ticket and request a backup restore. Most of them do it without any backlash as they mainly do blogs, not forums or other niches where you need a very updated back up.

Do you think that this is safe ? A good host can always be reliable, but how reliable they can be, even for a blogger ?

Never trust a boy with a man's job. Isn't that the phrase ? If you can, take your own independent backups, and never rely on a third party to have your back. Been there, done that, lost data.

I don't think it is safe to do that. Mainly because

If the host makes a mistake and your backup is lost
The backup is too old
3. The backup is corrupted

But with a very good host, you might not face this. It is better to be safe than sorry though.

I tell them to take a backup at least 2-3 days apart. But they do not put content daily. They do those SEO research and get articles done. I do not know how they post it, but their database won't change much in 3-4 days.

You can specifically pay through some hosts for keep their own backups. I have seen a few of them. Even in such cases, I prefer a personal copy.

I have seen admins take personal copy but at a remote location. They buy remote storage space and use methods to backup their database and files at a remote location that keeping it locally.
